Youth for Dharma - Hospital Visit - 24.05.2015

Hospital is a place meant for well-being and recuperation. While the term “Hospitality” refers to care, warmth, healing and service to the body and mind, Religion in an even greater sense renders care, warmth, healing and rejuvenation to the spirit and urges the human being to journey towards realization.

Youth for Dharma’s Hospital Visit program is an effort to provide warmth and rejuvenation to the spirits of the ill and the sick by invoking the divine and instilling devotion. Just as it gives a ray of hope to relieve the pain of the sick and suffering of their loved ones, it is also a process that cultivates the spirits of those who serve them – in this case the volunteers of Youth for Dharma.

One such motivating program was organized on the 24th May, 2015 at Government Children’s Hospital, Egmore, Chennai. Seven people participated in the program with full enthusiasm and support.

The event was kicked off with a prep meeting at Dharma Rakshana Samiti at 4 p.m. for the  volunteers to describe the importance, mode of approach, dos and don’ts of the event.

Our team reached the Hospital at 4.30 p.m. We split ourselves into two teams, and visited the maternity block of the hospital. We visited all the blocks except the intensive care units.
We went to six different wards, and around 200 people with their new born children

With courteous greetings, warm and empathetic conversations with the patients and their caregivers we could elevate the confidence for a faster recovery of the convalescent.

Also for every individual, Thai Mokaambikai temple prasad, a portrait of Lord Murugan /                       Dhanvanthri     Vinayaga were offered.

With the blessings of Ishvara and the participation and support of the members ensured that the program concluded with great satisfaction and grace. It was altogether a wonderful experience in seeing the new born children. The family members felt very happy and energetic, when prasadams were offered to them and their new born kids. All of us, who volunteered the event shared the wonderful experience that we had on that happy evening!

The blessed participants were:

v  The team of 18 youngsters which was a mix of people having been to slums before and otherwise, had one of their real breaking points in their lifetime , to sound factual if not anything more.
v  The slum was a place filled with lot of obstacles and challenges for the team in terms of antagonist believers, rude elements, chauvinist political activists and rampant prevalence of exploitation of innocent & ignorant Hindu individuals and families. At the other end, were people who were kind hearted, highly devotional, genuinely affectionate and completely innocent in showering love.
v  The team was also confronted in person by some disgruntled elements of the slum but then, the team which was completely poised, calm and at peace, with devotion in their thoughts and service in their action won over the hearts and minds of the slum dwellers through their religious service and humble behaviour.
v  The feedback from the slum dwellers and especially from the women folk has been very positive and encouraging for the Youth for Dharma team to undertake such seva activities with devotion in mind, purity in heart, kindness in words and purpose in action in future.

Some words from the participants

SANJIV KAUSHIK: "I render my heartfelt thanks for all those who took so much effort to organize the camp. The aura there was both enriching and enlightening with the graces of Swamini amma and Swamiji. After the camp, I felt so much lighter as the doubts and haziness hovering in my mind about simple things in life were wiped out. I am obliged not only to spread the word about Purna Vidya but also take necessary efforts towards the initiative. Looking forward to get more blessings from Swamini Amma and Swamiji.I am available for Youth For Dharma all the time. I feel good work has no limit and I wish to dedicate as much time as I can. I have always felt guilty whenever I wasn't able to attend some of YFD's activities because, when people who are working can dedicate time, as a student, why can't I?. With the growing strength of our team, I feel more energetic so we can beef up and frequent our activities. I am psyched up to give more of myself whenever YFD wants it".

SREEKAVI: “In my perception i feel the Camp has helped us to know more about the value of the values in our Hindu Religion. Swamini Amma's speech was really a thought awakening process
which made us think and adapt any religious principles. I think it's starting point for everybody to a spiritual path leading to peaceful life. The way she delivered message or story was awesome and it's totally a different experience. However i personally feel that we can try to inculcate the values of our Religion to future generation starting from our reachable point rather than trying to catch some other group of people voluntarily . We can even educate with what we know and make more of our friends to join "Youth for Dharma" So far from the event's i have attended i feel "Youth for Dharma" makes us think and adapt rather than preaching it. i personally feel its worth a lot and so many thanks to Swamini Amma as well as for the Trust in spending their valuable time. So glad to be a member too. Please feel free to reach for any Support”
